Coloriage obsessionnel compulsif

Colorier était un de mes passe-temps favori lorsque j’étais petite fille.
C’était tout un rituel: mes crayons bien rangés par ordre de couleurs dans leur boite, posés devant moi, mon énorme livre de coloriage en papier buvard et des heures entières de bonheur, avec comme seule contrainte de ne surtout pas dépasser. Dépasser ? Il en était hors de question. Et il y avait aussi les feutres, qu’il aurait été inacceptable d’utiliser : les feutres était pour moi uniquement réservé au dessin.Les seuls vrais amis du coloriage demeuraient les crayons de couleurs… Pourquoi? Parce que les feutres bavent et se voient de l’autre cote de la page. D’ailleurs, quand j’ai du choisir le papier sur lequel imprimer Anorak, j’ai fait un test. Avec un feutre bien sur. Je voulais que le papier soit assez épais pour que l’encre ne transperce pas!
Parfois j’approchais ma tète du cahier tout en coloriant, pour écouter la mélodie du crayon sur la page : ksh ksh ksh… Mais aussi pour m’assurer que j’étais aussi proche que possible de CETTE ligne. La ligne à ne pas dépasser. En coloriant, je m’évadais dans un endroit doux, un endroit où tout s’arrête, où tout n’est que tranquillité et rêverie, où les pensées se transforment en nuages. Et puis avec le temps et la découverte de l’écriture, j’ai petit à petit oublié de colorier.
Jusqu’à l’arrivée de mon fils Oscar. Depuis qu’il sait tenir un crayon dans les mains, Oscar colorie tous les jours. Pendant nos voyages, que ce soit dans le train, le métro, le bus ou l’avion, nous colorions. Tous les deux. On se relaie pour écouter la petite mélodie du crayon. Ou du feutre : parfois, on ne tombe pas d’accord quant à l’utilisation du feutre ou du crayon. Mais au final, nous perdons tous deux pieds et allons ensemble vers L’endroit, celui du rêve et de la méditation.
Et oui, même après toutes ces années, l’endroit existe toujours et est plus joli que jamais, un pur moment de sérénité dans nos vies. Jusqu’au moment ou un de nous deux hurle : «Attention à la ligne !»

Obsessive Colouring Disorder.

Colouring-in was one of my favourite pastime when I was a child.
It was quite a ritual: my pencils had to be in a perfect order of shades in their boxes, from white to yellow to orange and red etc… My huge colouring book sitting there in front of me with its sponge-like paper. And hours and hours of utter colouring bliss, ensuring I didn’t go over the line. Because going over the line was of course out of the question. And there was something else I didn’t agree with either: the use of felt tip pens. Felt tip pens were for drawing you see?
Pencils were the real friends of colouring. Why? Because with felt tip pens the ink would leak to the other side of the page. An outrage! In fact, it has never stopped being important because thirty years later, when I picked the paper to print Anorak on, I did a test. With a pencil and a felt tip pen! I had to make sure the paper we picked was thick enough so no ink would leak on the other page…
As a colouring kid, I would sometimes rest my head on the colouring book, to hear the pencil sing its lovely little melody: ksh ksh ksh ksh. But also to ensure I was close enough to THAT line! The line I could not go over. Colouring sent me in a wonderfully cosy place: a place where nothing happens, a place of complete tranquility and soft reverie, a place where thoughts are bouncy white clouds.
With my discovering how to write, I slowly forgot about the compulsion of colouring-in. Until Oscar arrived. From the moment he learnt how to hold a pen in his hands, Oscar has been colouring-in. During our travels, whether by plane, tube or train, Oscar and I make it a mission to colour in. In unison. Each of us takes turn to listen to the pencils’ little melody. Or the felt tip pen in some cases because well, we don’t always agree about the use of felt tip pens over pencils! We both lose ourselves and go together to that precious meditative place. Yes, all these years later, that quiet place is reassuringly still there. A moment of pure serenity in our busy lives. Until one of us shouts: “Careful the line!!”
